Bunheads

Silly name, name, great show.  As the resident “couch potato mom”, I watch more TV then the other moms put together.  I loved ‘Gilmore Girls’ and watched it regularly.  It’s back, or at least the energy and style that made it a seven year success is back.

Tony winner, Sutton Foster, plays Michelle, a Vegas Showgirl who’s had enough.   Following a bad audition and drunken evening with an ardent admirer, Hubble (Alan Ruck), she marries him and moves to his beautiful, but somewhat crowded home in a small coastal community.

Did I say crowded?  He lives with his mother, played by of all people, Kelly Bishop.  That’s right, the same wonderful actress who played Lorelei’s mom in ‘Gilmore Girl’s’.  Mom is also a dancer, and runs a dance studio from their home.

Amy Sherman-Palladino created both shows.  ’Gilmore Girls’ was touted as having some of the best dialogue on television.  ’Bunheads’ is equally well written.  Fast-paced comedic chatter punctuates the warm, light but heartfelt drama.

I really enjoyed the premier that aired last night on ABC family.  I look forward to next week’s episode when we hopefully discover what happened to poor Hubbell, it can’t be good, this show is more about the girls. If you were a fan of GG you’ll love ‘Bunheads’ and if you never saw Amy Sherman-Palladino’s original success, this is a great opportunity to find out what all the fuss was about.

I watched for Sutton and was surprised at how good it was until I remembered the GG dialogue. Really glad SF can put some money away for retirement and then come back to Broadway! she was FABULOUS in Anything Goes!
