Joanna's answer: I don't think so.... but if you are playing a few times a year it might be fun.
I am going to play golf with some friends and don't have my own clubs... Do I need to rent them or can I share from my friends bag?
Joanna's answer: Ask someone. There are golf courses that are more casual than others. IT will not be acceptable at some, and it could interfere with your friends game if you are both pulling clubs and exchanging clubs. Ask and be prepared to rent them.
I am going to play tennis with my friends at a tennis club... Do I really need "tennis" shoes?
Joanna's answer: If you are planning to play the game hard and well, then YES. Surprisingly tennis shoes and aerobic exercise shoes are designed for your safety. When you are running back and forth side to side it is easier than you would think to TWIST your foot and injure your ankle. These shoes are designed to carry the foot over the foot bed and support the ankle. The bottom of the shoe is wider than a running shoe, and please do be careful if you are messing around barefoot or in sandals. You may end up with an inconvenient injury. Even if you are incredibly coordinated.
I am invited to play golf with my boyfriends family and all I have with me are jeans. What do I do?
Joanna's answer: Maybe you have a nice little skirt that isn't denim, or can you ask your friends Mom if you can borrow something of her's. Do not be afraid to ask honestly if you think you may not have the right clothing. You will save yourself needless embarrassment. I am confused by the rules of golf course attire, but these traditions of dress code do still exist so be honest in asking and maybe with your friend's help you will find you have something appropriate in your suitcase after all.
I am invited to play tennis with my friend's mom at a tennis club... Do I need to wear tennis whites?
Joanna's answer: Maybe you do. Although I hope not. I don't have a white tennis skirt or shorts myself. I am avoiding a tennis club in my area for that reason. There have been some great tennis stars wearing colors and black even, but many clubs still require the WHITES. You should call and find out to save yourself any discomfort.
My friend curses and throws his racket when he misses the ball in tennis or makes a bad shot. I like to play, but am intimidated by his anger and actions. Is there something I can say or do? I am afraid of this confrontation.
Sally's answer: You probably need to find someone else to play with. There are plenty of clinics and round robins at private clubs and public recreation. Most likely you find someone whose on the same level of play and you end up making a new friend. Michele's answer: Mmm, don't play with that friend, If they take offense or ask you why, kindly tell them how you feel, It doesn't have to be confrontational, don't do it on the court, wait until you're in a place where your friend doesn't usually get angry. Tell them you value their friendship, if, in fact you do, but are uncomfortable with their tennis style. And follow through, if they promise to be more considerate, give them another chance, by then you will have broken the ice and if it happens again just say, "See, this is what I'm talking about." and don't let them talk you into playing with them again. Keep your friendship non-competitive.
Who has the right of way on a ski slope?
Joanna's answer: Usually the downhill skier, the skier ahead of you, below you is the one to watch for. Unfortunately you may have to ski around them and it is so hard to anticipate where they are going to turn.... Can they really be taking up the whole mountain? Are they ever going to turn... trying to ride around them then they turn right into me. Really?!
