Marinara
CindyServe over pasta...
Ingredients:
  •  2 large can whole tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1 handful fresh basil or 3 TBS dried basil
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • salt and pepper
Directions:

 This is so easy that I have never got in the habit of buying sauce in a jar.  The ingredients are all at hand at anytime and there is nothing better than a quick home made sauce.

  • Cover bottom of saucepan with olive oil on medium heat.
  • Add onion, garlic, basil, red pepper flakes, bay leaf, salt and pepper and simmer or sweat about 5 minutes
  • Add canned tomatoes and mash with a potato masher or hand held electric whisk
  • Simmer on stove one hour or more
