Plain and Simple Bread Stuffing
  • 3/4 cups minced onion
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped celery with the leaves
  • 1 cup butter
  • 9 slices white bread, cut in cubes and left out overnight
  • 2 tsps. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsps crushed sage
  • 1 tsp. dried thyme

Saute onion and celery in butter until the onion is tender, stir in about 1/3 of the bread cubes.  Turn it into a large bowl, add the rest of the ingredients and toss.  Stuff the bird lightly, stuffing expands as it heats.  If you have extra, or want a vegetarian stuffing, use a greased baking dish, cover and bake 30 minutes at 325, remove the cover and bake 15 minutes more.
