Fried Pizza

 This was the most requested recipe in my family growing up.  It is a special treat and not meant to be made often.  My son Jack makes it himself with pride.  It is most fun to let everyone roll out their own dough and create their own individual pizza.

Ingredients:
  • 1lb pizza dough
  • 1/2 cup flour for keeping dough from sticking to rolling pin and work surface
  • 2 cups pizza sauce or marinara (can use jarred or make your own)
  • 1 lb. shredded mozarella fresh or prepackaged shredded
  •  1/2 cup olive oil for frying
  • toppings.....pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, garlic, fresh basil, anything you like
Directions:
  • Cut pizza dough into 6-8 pieces for individual pizzas
  • Sprinkle flour on work surface and rub over rolling pin and roll out dough to as thin as you can get it to create individual pizzas
  • Have shredded cheese (room temperature for faster melting), warm sauce and any toppings available next to stove for quick access
  • Heat frying pan with half the olive oil...when hot add individual pizzas being careful not to crowd
  • Immediately add sauce with a spoon coating each individual pizza
  • Next add shredded cheese
  • Add any toppings
  • Adjust heat so pizza does not burn and cheese has a chance to melt
  • You can sett the oven on broil to finish melting cheese if having trouble but if let it cook slowly you may not need to
  • Drain on paper towels and serve immediately
  • Use remaining oil to continue making the pizzas in batches
