Vanilla Ice Cream

I love to make this simple and delcious icecream.  The vanilla bean is expensive but it adds such an authentic vanilla flavor!  An icecream maker is a fun machine and if you are like me you will get a lot of use out of it for a small investment. Try this ice cream with affagato (in espresso) below to read the blog.

  • 3 cups heavy cream (can use a combination of half and half and heavy cream if you would like it lighter)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp real vanilla extract or one tsp vanilla extract with the seed scrapings of one vanilla bean
  • Chill bowl of ice cream maker over night
  • In a saucepan combine the cream and sugar til sugar is completely dissolved stirring constantly
  • Pour warm mixture into a bowl
  • Add vanilla extract and seeds from a vanilla bean
  • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours
  • Pour cold mixture into frozen ice cream maker bowl
  • Follow directions of icecream maker and turn on
